{"id":5385,"date":"2025-05-07T14:30:30","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T14:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/networking-with-usc-and-galician-breeders\/"},"modified":"2025-06-20T16:10:51","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T16:10:51","slug":"networking-with-usc-and-galician-breeders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/en\/networking-with-usc-and-galician-breeders\/","title":{"rendered":"Networking with USC and Galician breeders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 5 and 6 May, a delegation from the LIFE Maronesa project, made up of breeders Aniceto Oliveira, Heitor Fernandes, M\u00e1rio Queir\u00f3s and Rafael Costa, accompanied by the project manager, completed the first of several visits organised by the project in collaboration with the University of Santiago de Compostela, to exchange knowledge between Galician breeders, farmers and community land managers and the cattle breeders and shepherds of the Serra do Alv\u00e3o. The visit programme was organised with the University of Santiago de Compostela and representing the Galician institution were academics Rosa Mosquera, Nuria Ferreiro and Diego V\u00e1zquez.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1195\" height=\"800\" class=\"wp-image-5382 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1-min-2-1195x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1-min-2-1195x800.jpg 1195w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1-min-2-598x400.jpg 598w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1-min-2-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1-min-2-1536x1028.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/1-min-2-2048x1371.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1195px) 100vw, 1195px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the first day, in the morning, the LIFE Maronesa team visited the O Carballo communal property in Friol, where they were welcomed by President Jos\u00e9 Manuel Iglesias. Within its area of pine timber farming, this common land includes the management of shrub vegetation using grazing animals of indigenous breeds such as Galician horses and goats, as well as Celtic pigs. In the afternoon, we travelled to Palas de Rei to visit the A Conguada livestock farm, owned by Jose Luis Carreira, who raises Vianesa cows in an extensive model on 100% natural diet, using only pasture grass, hay and silage.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1195\" height=\"800\" class=\"wp-image-5380 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2-min-1195x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2-min-1195x800.jpg 1195w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2-min-598x400.jpg 598w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2-min-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2-min-1536x1028.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/lifemaronesa.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/2-min-2048x1371.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1195px) 100vw, 1195px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The following morning, the delegation travelled to Pan de Zarco to visit the Experimental Farm for Pyric Herbivory run by the University of SC and the COMP\u00c1S Project. Later, in Robledo de Son, they were able to exchange impressions with fellow Rubia Galician breeder Enrique Fernandez, who shared relevant experiences in the use of virtual fences with Nofence collars.
