LIFE Maronesa was once again present to support the workshops of the ‘Sustainable Grazing and Landscape Management’ course, which aims to train entrepreneurs in livestock and grazing activities. The theme of this second training event was ‘Organising Processes, Equipment and Innovations’ and the session was led by engineer and livestock farmer Avelino Rego. The producers and shepherds who registered for the session were taught the importance of having a critical eye and assessing the profitability of their farms. The morning theoretical session included sharing experiences and ideas for the correct management of livestock farm equipment and infrastructure: drawing up a regular maintenance plan and noting interventions on machinery and parts; identifying and rehabilitating unused spaces; organising warehouses; drawing up a daily work map; financial management and the importance of incorporating technology.
In the afternoon, there was a technical visit to the farm of the breeder of LIFE Maronesa, Rafael Costa, who shared with the workshop participants his personal and professional approach to improving and adapting his organisational needs to the area of his farm, the landscape that shapes it and also the behaviour and routine of his animals. These themed workshops are part of the pedagogical approach of the ‘School of Shepherds’ and are organised by the Municipality of Mondim de Basto in partnership with the Terra Maronesa Association – Practical Community for Sustainable Development and with the support of Finerge.
