Partnership with Ribeira de Pena’s tourism agents to boost the economic value of extensive livestock farming

Developing a strategy for the socio-economic valorisation of extensive livestock farming in the Serra do Alvão is one of the goals of the LIFE Maronesa project. How can these territorial market offers and initiatives be converted into wealth and economic value for the territory’s agents, farmers and tourism operators? The strategy must involve an integrated and complementary approach to the needs of these agents and a focus on optimising the territorial, livestock and pastoral activity potential.

On the weekend of 26 and 27 October, in collaboration with the Hotel Pena Park, chef Vítor Miranda and partners Pena Aventura Park and the Mãe Aida restaurant, the ‘Discover the Maronesa’ test initiative was organised, a weekend with various activities combining gastronomic and nature tourism. The programme included a late afternoon panel discussion on Saturday, which was attended by cattle breeder Avelino Rego and chef Vítor Miranda and ended with a Clima Mais Positivo themed dinner. On Sunday, the participants had the privilege of visiting the cattle breeder’s farm in Ribeira de Pena and were able to follow his cows through the village, passing by the cattle handling area and ending up in the meadow that was to be the day’s feast.
