On 5 December, as part of the seminar organised by the LIFE Resland project to celebrate one year of the project’s implementation, a networking meeting was held in the afternoon with various LIFE projects that share areas of expertise with the project implemented by Cascais Ambiente. This meeting was attended by projects such as LIFE Serras do Porto, Zimbral 4 LIFE, LIFE BEETLES and LIFE Maronesa, the latter two through online participation. Representing LIFE Maronesa were Paula Teixeira and Joaquim Costa, from the Maronesa Breeders Association, and Henrique Mira Godinho, from AguiarFloresta. The meeting organised by the host LIFE project was an opportunity to exchange experiences between the five projects, identify the most successful techniques and strategies and the challenges that both projects have faced over the course of their implementation. The LIFE Maronesa team shared data and advice on forage feeding for the maronesa cattle and the experiences of the project’s breeders regarding the use of technological tools to improve the animal’s management. The LIFE Maronesa team and especially the partners of the Maronesa Breeders Association were also invited to visit the project’s area of intervention in Cascais. LIFE Resland aims to restore and transform the landscape of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park (on the Cascais side) into discontinuous patches of vegetation and uses other than those currently in use, such as grazing areas and the cultivation of native and resilient species. These environmental, social and economic benefits will also translate into gains for the community living in the municipality.
