Third Thematic Workshop for producers

LIFE Maronesa kicked off 2025 with a return to collaborating and supporting the workshops of the ‘Sustainable Grazing and Landscape Management’ course, which aims to train entrepreneurs in livestock and grazing activities. On 25 January, the course was held in Campanhó (Mondim de Basto) with a training session on ‘Animal Health and Welfare’, led by Dr Marlise Germer, with a visit to Tiago Farroco’s farm (Bravia goat). There were 16 participants, forming a very active and participative group, which we were very proud to accompany. The participants were able to recall the principles of fundamental aspects of their herd, such as feeding, lodging, health status and individual and group behaviour. The appropriate area within the stables for the comfort of each stage of the animal’s growth, the importance of natural and artificial immunity, as well as the debate on raising animals that are well adapted to the environment, were some of the topics highlighted in the training. This training cycle is part of the pedagogical approach of the ‘Shepherd School’ and is organised by the Municipality of Mondim de Basto in partnership with the Terra Maronesa Association – Practical Community for Sustainable Development and with the support of Finerge.
