On 9 November, LIFE Maronesa, represented by the project manager, was presented at the Professor Maestro Pereira Pinto Municipal Auditorium in Cinfães, as part of the annual meeting of CPADA, the Portuguese Confederation of Environmental Defence Associations, co-organised by the Tendais Parish Defence and Promotion Association. The theme of ‘Restoring Nature’ was the focus of the session and the project was a guest on the panel ‘Restoring terrestrial, coastal and freshwater ecosystems’ moderated by Professor Amílcar Teixeira from the IPB.
The member of our team emphasised the strategy used by the project, which makes use of the ecological and climatic benefits of herbivory combined with complementary prescribed fire interventions in the management of marginal mountain lands, allied to strengthening productivity in farm management through the implementation of innovative tools and technologies. He presented the economic model that aims to sustain extensive livestock farming, framed by commercial innovation and the valorisation of the activity through the integration of tourist agents into the territorial circuit. To close the presentation, he emphasised the importance of initiatives to boost governance in the 4 communities hosting the project’s work and of communicating and informing the various audiences in order to empower their role in society, such as consumers, voters, political decision-makers, technicians and academics.
