‘Territórios Pastoreados’ Conference and 11th SGPF Fall Meeting

LIFE Maronesa attended the annual livestock and extensive grazing congress organised by the Fundación entretantos and the Sociedade Galega de Pastos e Forraxes. The participation was important for us to get to know the economic activity of livestock and grazing as well as the reality of Galician livestock farmers in our neighbouring country, which has a climate, flora and fauna with many similarities. The highlight of our participation was the visit to the Xunta de Galicia’s mobile slaughterhouse on the 19th.

Also noteworthy were the presentations on Friday morning from the livestock and commercial farms of Casa da Fonte (Xosé García Freire) and Traloagro (Isabelle Gómez Rodríguez), and the presentation ‘Economic viability of extensive livestock farming’ by Juanma Intxaurrandieta. In the afternoon, we had the pleasure of participating in a focus group on the topic of pyric herbivory moderated by Rosa Mosquera and Nuria Ferreiro (Pyrics Lab and AFClima).

The conference day ended with excellent presentations by cachena cattle breeder Xabier González Maceda and equine breeders Uxía Salvatierra Otero and Alba Recalde López. Completing this last session was a presentation by César Resch Zafra, a researcher at CIAM, on the subject of ‘Greenhouse gas emissions in dairy cattle. Opportunities and risks.’.
