This Portuguese project and cross-border cooperation in its origins, aims to work beyond the prevention of natural risks, is coordinated by the Forestry and Environmental Association of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, together with other Portuguese associations such as Criadores de Maronês, Criadores de Cabra Bravia, the National Goat Farmers of the Serrana Race, and is financed by the program Promoting Frontier Regions of the La Caixa Foundation.
Rebanhos + intends to use oriented pasture as a tool to manage natural spaces, prevent fires in a coordinated way between different border territories and recover degraded areas. For this purpose, work will be carried out on the creation of models of georeferenced information systems (GIS) that, through a virtual platform, allow the prevention of risks and adaptation to climate change in the territories.
According to the coordinating entity, they also seek the collaboration of the various actors for the appropriation of the model and its ability to replicate in other territories. In this sense, the platform will also have training and technical support tools so that they can be used by entrepreneurs in the sector who wish to adapt to the innovations proposed by Rebanhos Mais.
To achieve these objectives, the initiative promotes the participation of administrations, farmers and consumers, based on the positive experience that experience has already acquired in other territories such as Andalusia, Catalonia and several areas of the Pyrenees, where an improvement in the reduction of forest fires thanks to the application of the methodology and resources derived from the project.
